Career details:
Robbie Kydd joined Bath Rugby from Otago who play in the New Zealand National Provincial Championship as cover during the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Robbie’s pedigree was undoubted having represented his country at Schoolboy, under-19 and under-21 levels, as well as being selected for the New Zealand Universities team in 2003. Kydd’s career for Otago saw him picked for the Highlanders Super 12 squad where he played in the Development team representing Otago Highlanders under-23s whilst still in his teens. Being EU qualified meant that Robbie was never troubled by the ‘foreign player’ ruling and his ability to play centre, fly half or full back made him an ideal acquisition. Having claimed a brace of tries in the Bath United 31pts-0pts win over Keynsham in pre-season, Robbie earned a call up to the bench for the opening league match of the season at Leeds Tykes, where he made his debut as a second half replacement for Brendon Daniel. His stint at Bath was prematurely cut short when wage cap restrictions saw him released to play for Saracens in December 2003. Kydd’s last appearance for Bath Rugby was as a replacement for Matt Perry in the 20pts-10pts Zurich Premiership defeat of Newcastle Falcons at the Rec. In his time with the club Robbie notched up a try against Northampton Saints in the Powergen Cup (he also kicked a conversion), a score that came on the back of a maiden try against Gloucester at Kingsholm.
