Career details:
An England School’s U16 and U18 international, Jon Pritchard was a product of the renowned Colston’s Collegiate in Bristol and captain of its very successful 1st XV’s.. The 6 ft. 14 stone centre made his Bath Rugby debut against Coventry at Coundon Road in November 1996, and celebrated by scoring a try in the 45-17 win. It was to prove his only senior score in the club’s colours. Further matches against the Combined Services, Western Samoa, Wakefield, Otago, Bridgend and the Army followed, as Pritchard established himself as a fringe squad player at the Rec. He was rewarded for some excellent performances in those matches by winning an England Colts cap in a 26-18 defeat to Scotland. He later went on to represent England at under-21 level. After impressing in the pre-season match at Newbury at the beginning of 1997/1998, Jon found himself in the starting line up for the league clash with Newcastle Falcons at the Rec. Unfortunately he injured a finger tendon after tacking Va’aiga Tuigamala, which kept him out for 14 weeks. Upon his return he completed four more appearances for the club before the lack of 1st XV chances drove him away. Having previously had a short period with Clifton, Jon joined Bristol and latterly played for Newport where he won a Welsh Cup winners medal in 2002, before returning for a second stint at the Memorial Ground.
