Career details: Was a pilot who flew in  the Schneider Trophy a speed contest for seaplanes and flying boats which was contested between 1913 and 1931 with a prize of £1,000:00 ( a considerable amount of money at the time) for the winner. The competition was revived in 1981 and continues till this day.
