Achievements: Captain of Bath at 19 years of age in 1875/76 & 1876/77, Captain of Somerset County XV 1882-84, President of Cambridge University RFC

Honours: Peterhouse,Cambridge – 6 Blues between 1878 and 1883 (a Cambridge record only overtaken in 2017)  Somerset (13 caps), England (6 caps) (first on 6th February 1882-last on 5th January 1884))

First Bath player from the Bath Club to be capped by England although he won all his caps whilst at Cambridge

23/11/1882 Cambridge University v Somerset. H G Fuller (Peterhouse) played for Cambridge and scored.

20/2/1883 Middlesex v Somerset. Drawn one try each, with H G Fuller playing in the pack.

14/1/1888 Somerset v Yorkshire, Weston-super-Mare. Attendance 4000. The Somerset side included the brothers P F and E L Hancock from Wiveliscombe. Bath

Recognisable by his premature bald head, Herbert was reputed to be the inventor of the scrum cap although this could not be substantiated

Died in Streatham aged 39 on 2nd January 1896
