To maintain players in tip top condition and to administer to their physical knocks, it was necessary to "appoint" medical personnel to voluntarily assist the Club and its players.
In the early part of the 1900s only one or two medical personnel were involved but, as demands for maintaining player health increased, medical teams were formed to ensure that players were afforded the best possible assistance and advice
