Career details
Alfred Kitching MA, was a Keble College, Oxford Scholar. He was a Senior Master at Monkton Combe School from 1936 to 1947. A talented and well-liked teacher, combining academic excellence, with an unflagging interest in school sporting activities: “There is no doubt that many owed much of their happiness at school to kindness received from him. Yes, and many too would acknowledge that their happiness and success in life was due in some measure to his influence in spiritual matters.” (A Goodly Heritage – A History of Monkton Combe School. A.F. Lace)
He was ordained in the year of his retirement. He played some outstanding games for Somerset, and Bath until 1914. For three seasons, his centre was James Timmins, and along with the Coates brothers, half backs Fear and Hatherill formed the backbone for many of Bath’s most exciting team performances.
