Career details:
Gareth was born in Wales on 8th October 1982 and played most of his rugby at full back. Born in Swansea, Gareth is yet another example of the immense young Welsh talent that has been nurtured at Bath Rugby. Gareth, who made his competitive debut in the Middlesex Sevens competition in the summer of 2001, joined the club having spent two successful seasons at Colston’s School in Bristol, where he established a reputation as a player who was equally at home at both full back and fly half. Gareth proved an outstanding competitor both with the under-19s, whom he played for in the final of the National Colts Cup, and with the under-21s, who reached the quarter-finals of the play-offs before bowing out to London Wasps in 2002. Gareth has represented Wales at under-16 and under-18 levels. He made his first team debut towards the end of the 2001/2002 season coming on as a second half replacement for Rob Thirlby in the 12pts-68pts defeat at the hands of Gloucester. He then followed that up by replacing Olly Barkley in the final game of the season at home to London Wasps. The season 2002/2003 was something of a wipe out for Gareth who didn’t feature in any first team games, but he was back in the frame in 2003/2004, coming on five times early in the term as cover during the 2003 Rugby World Cup, before being released at the end of the season.
