Career details:

Hentie Martens signed for Bath Rugby from former club London Irish in time for the beginning of the 2003/2004 season, making his club debut as a replacement for Martyn Wood in the 67pts-7pts pre-season friendly defeat of Henley Hawks. His competitive debut was also as a replacement for Wood during the 44-32 opening day league defeat of Leeds Tykes in September 2003. Such was the good form of Wood, Hentie found chances extremely limited in the 1st XV and had to wait until 13th December for a first start in the 50-0 home win over Italians, L’Aquila in the Parker Pen Challenge Cup. He celebrated his promotion with a well-taken try. He then kept his place the following week at home to Newcastle, but thereafter with Wood back on the scene, had to be content with a place on the replacements bench. His last appearance for the club was as a late substitute in the Zurich Championship Final defeat to London Wasps at Twickenham. Martens was a member of the full South African squad in 1993, although was not capped at the highest level for the Springboks, only appearing in non-cap matches. Formerly with Super 12 side the Sharks, Martens also played Currie Cup rugby for the Free State Cheetahs and the Natal Sharks. Whilst with London Irish, Hentie claimed a Powergen Cup winner’s medal in 2001 as the Exiles defeated Northampton Saints at Twickenham. He left the club in July 2004 to sign for Plymouth Albion in National league One.
