Career details:

An unheralded signing at the beginning of the 1996/1997 season Christian Tyrer was a strapping winger snapped up from Widnes Rugby League Club. One of the first to make the switch to Union, Tyrer’s time at Bath was short lived and he only went on to represent the club on five occasions. All of these appearances were in friendly matches as with the prolific Adedayo Adebayo, England international Jon Sleightholme and fellow league recruit Jason Robinson ahead of him in the first team queue opportunities were somewhat limited. His debut was in a tour match at the Rec. against Western Samoa. Tyrer featured in the centre in a side that included Jon Callard and Robinson in the backs, while Federico Mendez, the burly Argentinean hooker made a debut in the pack. Bath won the match 36pts-17pts against the side who had earlier seen off Ireland at Lansdowne Road. Tyrer was to make a second appearance in a 71pts-20pts mauling of Wakefield where he scored a try and also featured in a defeat at Bridgend, all at outside centre. His other two starts were at full back in a defeat against Otago and in a 26pts-16pts mid-week win over the Army in which he scored his second and last try for the club. He later went back to rugby league.
